Aberration

Author's Note: I'm not sure where I'm going with this story. But perhaps its important to mention Kavar looks like Jude Law in this fic. And that this story takes place 5 years after "Departure". Tess has made a life for herself on Antar. Kavar has appointed her an ambassador and she's on Earth for a business trip. (Confusing I know, but since this is a work in progress, I'm not done with it!)

Tess sighed. 'Just my luck,' she thought. Max, Isabel, and Michael had spotted her and were coming her way.

"Ambassador, we could take care of them," the lieutenant offered.

"No," she waved him off. "That's okay." She didn't need protection from the royals.

"What are you doing here?" Max asked her.

"It's a free country. But then again I must've forgotten that you own the planet," she said dryly.

Max didn't know quite how to respond that. He was about to say something but his eyes widened when he got a good look at the necklace she was wearing.

"You're getting married?" he asked directly. He recognized her necklace as an engagement necklace. An extravagant one too. It was made of solid Terrian rocks and Jerahn fibers.

"Yes," she answered calmly.

"To who?" he demanded enraged.

Tess scrunched up her eyebrows. "That's none of your business," she said fuming. She was surprised by his strong reaction.

"It is my business!" he retorted.

She raised an eyebrow. She had to hear this one. Michael and Isabel grew uncomfortable. It seemed like Max and Tess had forgotten there was anyone else around them. Isabel thought either one of them could slip that they were aliens.

"You're my wife! You can't marry anyone else!"

She would have laughed if she wasn't so angry. "Max, I am not your wife. I haven't been for a long time. That was in another lifetime. A mistake I made that I'm cautious not make again," she told him.

"Who is he?" Max demanded again.

"Fine. If you must know I'm engaged to Kavar," Tess revealed.

Max felt like the wind was not out of him.

"What?" Isabel said shocked.

His blood boiled with anger. "You are not marrying him," he said sternly.

"You can't tell me what to do. I'll marry whom I please," she stood firmly. So much had changed in the last five years. He had no right to try to tell her what she could do. "Now move out of my way," she demanded.

He was taken aback intensity in her words. He stepped away from her. "Tess, this isn't over."

"Yes it is," she countered. She motioned to the soldiers standing off to the side and left.

"What the hell was that!" Michael yelled at him when she was out of hearing range.

Max was still staring off into the direction she left. "I don't wanna talk about it."

"Yeah, well you're gonna," Michael told him. "You could have gotten all of us killed!"

Max didn't respond.

"She was accompanied by alien soldiers, Max. Soldiers! And she's marrying Kavar. Once he's heard of this he probably will want us dead. Doesn't this mean anything to you?" Michael argued.

"Of course. I can't believe her. Kavar is our enemy," Max finally said.

"Yeah, our enemy. Not her's," Michael reminded him.

Max ran his hands through his hair.

"What happened to you back there?" Isabel asked Max after a few moments of silence. "You're with Liz but the way you acted-"

"I know!" Max interrupted. "It's just... I can't explain it. The thought her with somebody else..." he trailed off. "I don't know." He couldn't really convey why he was consumed with so much anger.
