They stood there. They watched her leave. They knew her heart was breaking but they stood there. Numb. Confused. Conflicted. They wanted to know where they came from. They never imagined the rabbit hole was that deep.

No one spoke. Their minds were all running a mile a minute. They couldn't pick out one single thought from them all. Isabel was crying. Silent tears. Michael couldn't wipe the look of disbelief from his face. Tess, at first at ease, slowly gained a terrified expression; and Max, poor Max, looked off into the direction Liz left. Not quite registering what had happened. As if he was hoping she would come back.

Isabel's tears continued to fall. She whimpered. Michael reached out to console her. She pushed him away. He looked at her. She looked at his face quickly and then looked away. She slowly began walking to the car. The car, everyone seemed to forget it existed. Max followed her. Michael began to leave too, but saw Tess still standing there. He wanted to ask what was wrong but thought better of it. He signaled her to follow him. She did.

The ride back to the warehouse was silent and uncomfortable. No one knew what to say.

"They're not at the warehouse," Tess said.

They looked up but didn't say anything. Max was driving. He didn't know why but he thought Tess was probably right. He drove back to the Crashdown instead. It wasn't Maria or Liz's shift but it was worth a try.

When they got there business seemed pretty slow. They didn't see Liz, Alex, or Maria. Michael decided to check in the personal area.

"Maybe you guys should stay here," Michael said.

"No way, I'm going," Isabel declared. Max nodded hesitantly.

They looked for them in the worker's area but they weren't there. Michael spotted Janet, a girl who worked a different shift.

"Hey. Have you seen Maria, Alex or Liz?" Michael asked her.

"Yeah, they stopped by a few minutes ago. Michael, are you going to be working your shift?" Janet asked.

"Why? Where'd they go?" Michael asked.

"Because we're covering for Liz and Maria already. I wanted to know if you'd be here."

"Oh, where'd they go?" he repeated.

"I think to Maria's," she said and they turned to leave.

"Thanks," Michael said.

"Wait, are you working or not?" Janet called after them. He didn't respond.
